The Coastal Computers Apple Report for April

Even though Apple’s stock is skyrocketing after analysts predict a hefty retail sales profit margin of over $1 trillion dollars, the company continues to keep us in suspense. From rumors the company would lose significant market share after it’s well-known and loved leader, Steve Jobs passed, the company perseveres by keeping us in suspense of what will be its next major launch. Just another way that the company likes to maintain our loyalty is to deliver products when the public least expects. To read the latest and how the company has raised its stock prices indicates how well the major brand is moving forward.

Could Apple buying Netflix be a possibility? According to an article published by Madison.Com, there’s some type of buzz that Apple would make such an acquisition. It’s possible but not likely as Apple would have to pay Netflix somewhere in the ballpark of $90 Billion, to make such an acquisition. In fact, it doesn’t sound like a viable move for Apple as this type of investment would take them way to long to break even. Just as every other rumor started by bloggers, this is yet another predicament that doesn’t hold water.

Speaking of the iPhone 8, there’s a good chance we will see this new device to hit the shelves in October. While the smart phone is being, mass produced in China, there’s a prediction there will be a shortage crimping the supply and demand of the phone with the 5.1-inch screen. Not to worry though, as there are several models being released at the same time as the iPhone 7s, 7 and 7Plus. It will certainly be interesting to see where the results will lead. To read the full story, click the link found on ieTechnology.

On the flip side, there’s great news for those artists including graphics and visual as the new app ArtRage 5.0.4 has been released. With a multitude of design options this app allows for more artistic control with more selection of brushes as well as color mixing tools to help your graphic designs become more in depth. What’s awesome about this app is that the affects you get are equivalent to painting on canvas with a brush or some other painter’s tools. Another great aspect to this creative aid is the price point is well worth the money at only $79 bucks. Way to go Art Rage!

As you can tell, both Apple and Mac are busy keeping everyone on their toes for the month we’re currently careening through. As we keep up with the rumors and news, we’ll keep you abreast of the stories for you to stay in the know. 4 Pieces of Travel Gear for Apple Users

If you’re someone who is an Apple User, which we’re assuming you are, and you travel there are a ton of interesting gadgets and gizmos that can make your trip easier. We found a few cool items that we’ve either used ourselves or have found on the internet that may make your vacation or business trip run more smoothly.

1.)   Plugs and outlets are always difficult to find when waiting to board a plane. It seems there are very few except for charging stations where every passenger appears to be waiting in line for a quick fix of power. Fab.com has found an incredible solution and one you can’t live without if you’re an avid flyer. This innovative tool allows you to double the outlets and gives you two USB plugins but only uses one electrical outlet. While someone else may have a plug at the top with an iPhone or Smartphone, you can maximize the power without hogging up four different plugs. The perfect solution to an everyday situation. The best part is it folds right up and can fit into a purse or travel bag without taking up a ton of room.

2.)   Next, if you’re someone who tends to turn into a ‘butter finger’ once inside of an airport terminal or a bus, then you won’t want to miss out on the Anti-Drop Ring for your smartphone. The cool thing is you can buy this accessory right from Amazon for less than $20. You can also use the sturdy ring to prop up your iPhone for a little Netflix viewing.

3.)   In addition to what’s hot for your iPhone, things items such as your iPad tend to take a bit of a beating while traveling. One cool item found on http://www.builtny.com/ which is a super cool website that shows a ton of rad bags and totes that aren’t only super creative carryall’s they’re made with an ultra-sturdy material called Neoprene that can be stored in the freezer. They have the perfect carrying case for iPads that protect the surface. An excellent companion for any expedition.

4.)   Likewise, to the iPhones and iPads, your laptop is a must have. However, these devices are knocked around just while going through security much less shoved into your luggage or bags. The Oxford multi-functional luggage with storage bag is an excellent way to prevent anything from happening to your computers and other devices. One of the best features for this suitcase is its ability to be carried on top of other luggage, but it can also be used as a backpack or shoulder bag making this item super-versatile. You need to use this tool for every business deal.

So, these are just a few of our favorite ideas for the Apple traveler to keep in mind. Your next trip won’t be lost fighting for outlets or worrying about the condition of your devices after you land. If you have a favorite tool feel free to share with us, we’d like to hear your comments.

iCloud Benefits for Apple Devices

If you’re like most people in today’s fast-paced electronic age, you understand the dilemma of having to manage multiple devices throughout the day. One minute you’re checking your iPhone, the next, your iPad, all while adding content on your iMac creating a whirlwind of potential chaos. With as many devices you must be responsible for, it’s inevitable that things will get lost. In this week’s blog, we focus on iCloud benefits for those who are Apple was driven that will help you see the light at the end of the iCloud tunnel.

There’s nothing worse than being in a meeting only to be lost when finding an accurate photo, document or anything else creative. iCloud allows you to keep track of all these items in one spot that can be accessed from any device under the sun.

The other benefit to using the iCloud is storage. Your iPhone or iPad is only capable of storing so much. When it becomes crowded with your data, especially images and video, those files eat storage space like crazy causing your devices to be slower and potentially crashing. The concept of the iCloud allows you to keep these items tucked away neatly without eating up all your space.

Since we’re on the subject about storage space, let’s discuss sharing files. Even small videos can be difficult to transfer or share if they’re over 2GB. You’d be surprised how quickly that amount of data can deny access. When using iCloud, your data can be shared without long wait times for down and uploading. It just makes perfect sense to use this solution for transferring files.

Losing your device or replacing can cause a lot of stress for those who take a lot of photos or hold onto valuable data. You’ll never have to be anxious again as you’ll always have access to what you store on the iCloud. Even if you replace your computer, you’ll still safely store your favorite pics and music without a worry.

The most important thing to remember is the iCloud is set up for peace-of-mind. By ensuring you’ll never lose any of your data or necessary files, you’ll never have to be concerned about losing anything again. If that’s not worth its weight in gold, we’re not sure what is!

The Coastal Computers Reporter: Real Time Apple News and Updates

What’s better than being generous and giving back to your community? The answer is making donations quick, easy and efficiently with Apple Pay. Per the website, Third Sector, people can now make payments to their favorite non-profit or cause without having to add your data multiple times. Apple Pay is taking the guess work out of being charitable, and one of the best features allows you to give on the spot without filling out long forms or going through a multitude of prompts. Way to go Apple Pay!

Next, ‘Hot off the Apple-Press’! Apple told reporters at the BBC the following statement “The technology built into today’s iPhone represents the best data security available to consumers, and we’re always working to keep it that way,” spokesperson. Does this mean that Apple insists on providing the most secure system on the planet? We think it does at least so far. What was also interesting is Microsoft’s response was “are aware of the report in question” and “urgently considering the matter.” Don’t you just love how this issue has raised the bar, and the company giving us the most confidence when it comes to security remains the same…Apple.

While we’re sad to announce this, we think it’s best to hold off jumping into the iPhone 8. The good news is there’s rumor a different model is on the horizon. While we haven’t been given any new updates on the release or whereabouts this next model is we are staying on top of the latest. However, we hear great news about the iPhone 6 with an updated 32 gigabytes of storage. The gold finish is swanky making this an excellent upgrade all around. Keep up without blog to find out more details.

Look for April 4th being a big day for the company as they will be scheduled to have a release event for both the iPad Pro 2 and iPad Mini 5. While the feds at Apple are keeping tight-lipped, we do know this is a long overdue expectation for the many users. The event will take place in the renovative Steve Jobs Theater which we think is cool. Nonetheless, we are anxious just like everyone else to hear about the innovations.

These are just a few of the tidbits of hot news we recently learned. Feel free to leave your comments or topics you’d like for us to cover. We are your best computer ninjas in Boca Raton.

Green Acres is About to See Some Google

Drive down any country road in the Everglades, and you’re bound to lose your Wifi connection until you get to the next town that might hook up. While this still holds truth in most rural areas, there are some interesting rumors spreading Google will introduce the internet after putting their drone project, “Project Loon” on hold. But, what does having access to the ‘intranets’ mean for Apple and Mac users? In this blog, we’ll tell you a few predictions. Let’s get ready to re-boot!

In an article found on CNN, tech journalist, Matt McFarland stated that Google had abandoned their drone program to find future solutions to bring the Internet to places that are typically titled ‘the sticks.’ Per the article was written Project Loon would send balloons to space, returning an internet connection to land below. However, due to managing costs and flaws in the hardware, the plan has been put on hold.

Although the project is currently on hold seeking new alternatives. It will be interesting to see what will happen once they provide the internet to the country and non-populated areas? How do you think Mac users will respond?

To answer a few of these questions, let’s look at the idea that MAC users are everywhere including the country side. Businesses like agricultural design and research will have higher quality computers with high-resolution images to better serve their purposes. People can be in touch with more supplies and other beneficial products. The pros obviously outweigh the cons.

In addition to the obvious, kids living in these areas will further their horizons by studying online. There are so many benefits to the possibilities but why does it matter? Well, the more Google expands, the more access we all must provide vital information, so why wouldn’t we want them to produce the net in these places. Heck, you might have assumed that all the wooded areas and everywhere else were already installed, to find out it isn’t.

Have you ever tried to use your GPS in areas where there’s no signal? It’s pretty much a stupid feature to have with the utilization of the technology that makes it operate. Since these are all valid points we make, we know that Alphabet is working on these aspects for this geo-targeted area.

While there’s no targeted dates set for the launch, Google is in the process of perfecting this system and predictions should start by the end of summer 17’. Just remember this technology is bound to help not hurt the folks living in the dark ages out in the back forty. We’re just happy we have the internet and can’t imagine life without it!

How to Avoid Malware or Adware on a Mac

In recent years, hackers have created viruses and Trojans that target the Mac platform. Even though Apple has advertised their device as being virus-free, Mac malware is now a reality that users should seek to address by securing their devices. One thing you need to understand is that all malware comes from third party programs and applications. This means that your risk of infection is high so long as you install these applications and browse on the web. We’ll show you ways to secure your Mac and prevent any viruses, Trojans and malware from affecting your system.

  1. Perform regular security upgrades

Apps on your Mac as well as third party programs need to be updated regularly. This is one of the best ways to keep your device secure. Just go to the Apple menu and open software update. From there you can install any updates that are available.

  1. Remove Adobe Acrobat Reader

Perhaps you may want to get rid of Adobe Acrobat Reader from your browser. This program has been seen to have multiple security concerns of late. You really don’t need this program on your device. Most people use it to preview PDFs. To uninstall the program, locate the running uninstaller app and click the uninstall button. You will increase the performance of your device and also eliminate a security threat.

  1. Install anti-virus software for Mac OS

There is some antivirus software created for Mac OS. There are some free versions that you can install and be able to prevent viruses and fight them effectively. Antivirus software is one of the best preventative measures. Only make sure you don’t select a program that slows down your device because it’s too heavy.

  1. Don’t open files automatically after downloading

Opening files you’ve download automatically is one of the quickest ways to invite malware into your device. You need to disable this feature and open the files manually. On the safari preferences, click the general tab. Select the option for “open safe files after downloading”. This will allow you to only open files after you’ve verified their sources and prevent introducing malware into your device.

  1. Avoid installing any software you didn’t need

When browsing on the internet, it’s common to be confronted with a dialog box that asks you to install a software that you may not know. Simply don’t install it. Installing random software is one of the fastest ways to get malware into your Mac.

  1. Be on the lookout

It’s important to use common sense when browsing on the internet. If something seems too suspicious and is too good to be true, then it probably is. Adware arrives from application-downloading sites that push you to click on a program that you probably don’t need. So only download your applications either form the Mac App Store or developer’s website. Do not run to download an unsigned software. If the apps are not provided by the developer or from the Mac App Store, be very weary.

How Prone are Macs to Viruses and Malware?

Some Mac users believe that they never have to worry about viruses and malware after investing in their devices. But is the belief that Mac can’t get viruses and malware true? Certainly not. Like all other computer systems, Macs can get viruses too. It depends on how well you secure the device and what software is installed.

Install an antivirus program

Most people don’t want to install an antivirus program because they are usually too heavy and bog down your computer. It could be the reason why Apple doesn’t like promoting these programs either. Apple markets its devices as virus-free advising consumers that they don’t really need to waste their money on an antivirus program. However, Mac users who have suffered significant malware attacks and lost their vital data now rely on antivirus programs to offer total protection.

How to tell if your Mac is affected

Hackers these days have become so smart that it would be difficult to tell if your device has been affected right away. Most of the malware around these days is very silent, because hackers have realized this is the best way to get away with it for a long time. In fact, the virus may not even slow down your computer so you won’t even notice any performance changes from the time it gets in. The best bet would be to take your computer to a Mac specialist from time to time and have it checked for malware and adware.

Why is malware more common in Windows and Android?

There are many reasons why hackers target the more popular operating systems like Windows and Android as opposed to Mac. For a start, these two platforms, being so popular, perform better in terms of targeting the most people and reaping the hackers the most benefit. At the end of the day, hackers want to make money and they do this by targeting very popular platforms. Secondly, there are lots of SDKs and open source software to create malware for popular operating systems like Windows. For a hacker to build a malware for MAC OS, they are going to have to spend more. Furthermore, Mac has enhanced their reputation when it comes to security meaning that many hackers shy away from trying to create malware for these systems.

Your device is still at risk

Having a secure operating system is never enough. So long as you browse on the internet and interact with third-party software, your computer will still be at risk. Browsers, Java, Flash Players and other programs are known to give the highest risk of malware. And since you can’t afford to stay away from them completely, your device will still be vulnerable to an attack.

To protect yourself and at least have that peace of mind, you need to start by making sure all your applications are up to date. Install the latest antivirus product or security suite that is designed for MAC OS. If you come across something suspicious on the web, keep off, don’t open the page or click the link.

Apple Computers Soon to Be Manufactured in the USA or Not?

In 2012 there were some serious predictions that Apple would start to manufacturer MAC computers in the USA. Now five years later, we find that these rumors are still circulating and not more is being said to improve the situation. To date, most of these computers are still made in China. However, a bit of buzz coming from Apple CEO Tim Cook is pointing in a different direction.

Per an update found on macworld.co.uk, it seems that Cook is targeting desktops to be in a strategic planning phase for the iMac 5K. This computer will pack performance and will have the Retina 5K display, and Cook was quoted as saying “If there’s any doubt about that with our teams, let me be very clear: we have great desktops in our roadmap. Nobody should worry about that.”

This sounds like there’s some focus with desktops and perhaps this is where the idea ties in with the rumors of Macs in America MFG? Nonetheless, while we had to wait for half a decade to see upgrades done to the Mac Pro, we do know that many of these machines are manufactured in Texas.

There’s plenty of talks located on the 9to5Mac site when it comes to making these computers on American Soil. One comment that was interesting is that Mac Pros are amongst a niche market compared to the rest of Apple’s products. They claim lower volume and fewer workers are the reason these laptops can be made in the US without charging astronomical prices.

While the argument continues across the US economic and political statements that bringing more jobs back to the states will inevitably create a more robust market, nothing points to Apple making their mark. Mass production in the USA would certainly help. But, nothing has been announced that they would open more plants.

In the meantime, companies such as ours are excellent resources for keeping up with the status of more Mac Jobs.  Even more importantly we help to keep your existing machines intact while waiting for the next greatest Apple to be released. Don’t forget to check out the articles mentioned with the links below.
